I am very excited about serving as Vice President for SETP in Austria. I want you all to know that I am also very humbled to serve in this position. I will do my best to continue with and enhance the spirit of the Society during my tenure, following into the footsteps of our previous vice president, late Brgd. Josef Bernecker.
I’d like to thank Steve Rainey and his Board of Directors for offering me this position. On a worldwide scale SETP is 2400 members strong, with five members in Austria. SETP is known for their great symposia and regional meetings, bringing flight test excellence from many different fields of piloted aviation to their members. The Austrian members cover a wide range of flight testing experience – from ultra-modern heavy fuel powered general aviation aircraft, to gyrocopter flight testing, certification flight testing, concept proof of electric powered aircraft, systems test and evaluation to amateur built aircraft. Above all, our members serve as experimental test pilots in different projects and help to advance safety, economy and comfort of air travel in this capacity.
We are well on the way to a great year of meetings and symposia. We will have a workshop on Loss-Of-Control in Salzburg from 19-20 November 2012. There will be opportunities for test pilot re-current training in October and flight test jour-fixes throughout the year.
In 2011 the Society supported the 5th European Flight Test Safety Workshop in Salzburg. The focus was on airshow demonstrations and preventing accidents. The product of this workshop will be a guide and checklist for airshow demonstrations – this directly supports our primary goal to increase flight test safety. The Austrian members support the international Society with this project.
In 2009 we hosted a great 3rd European Flight Test Safety Workshop in Vienna with more than 90 participants. Flight Test Pilots from all over the world, including China and Brasil and most European countries, met and talked about the risks and challenges that go along with first flights.
So as we proceed together into an exciting future I ensure that we continue to do what we do best – provide superior flight test activity to our clients and to increase flight test safety by learning from each other. I am certain that – although we are small in numbers – we will ultimately have the effect of increasing efficiency for all test pilots and ultimately improving flight test safety.
I wish you all fair skies.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dieter Reisinger
Vice President for Austria
